ABSTRACT

The aim of the study is to develop a systematic conceptual and categorical framework for the comprehensive analysis of regional demographic development. To overcome the fragmentation of existing approaches that separate quantitative, qualitative, and behavioral aspects, a methodology based on the principles of permutation-based (mutational) synthesis is proposed. The definition of demographic development as a directed change in the properties of a population leading to a change in its state is adopted as the basic category. The permutation (rearrangement) method was applied to a hierarchical system of categories, including the triads «population» (quantity, quality, behavior), «direction of changes» (regress, isogress, progress), and «state of the system» (chaos, ordering, stabilization). This enabled the logical synthesis of a complete set of 27 peripheral concepts describing all possible configurations of a region's demographic state. The sources used in the article include a corpus of classical and modern demographic theories, as well as methodological works on the organization of scientific knowledge. The main result of the study is a holistic conceptual framework that ensures a complete description of a region's demographic system through distinct triadic states. The apparatus facilitates the integration of classical demographic concepts into a unified logical space, allowing for their fine differentiation and linkage to the institutional context. Based on the synthesized concepts, options for their grouping by evaluative vector, level of management, and object of change are proposed, along with a comprehensive three-dimensional taxonomy for regional typologization. The study's conclusions confirm that the developed apparatus actualizes the tasks of creating integrative models, studying non-linear dynamics and paradoxical states, and forming a systematic theory of regional demographic differences, thereby establishing a methodological foundation for substantiating differentiated demographic policy.
