ABSTRACT

This article reviews current academic discourse among labour economists on the destandardization of employment. The study aims to identify the current understanding of domestic economic science regarding trends in the field of employment destandardization. The data for the article are based on the abstracts of speakers at the roundtable discussion «De-Standardization of Employment: Trends and Prospects» at the 10th St. Petersburg International Labour Forum. The uniqueness of this study is determined primarily by the database it utilizes, which is comprised of abstracts — a condensed form of academic discourse — written by academic labour economists from leading Russian research and educational institutions who presented their papers at the country's flagship discussion platform on labour issues. The study revealed the current vision of economic science regarding the trends and new contours of its de-standardization, which in 2026 focuses on the quality of working life, well-being and decent work, the impact of artificial intelligence, the dilemma of «human-centricity versus precarization», new forms of employment (including self-employment), as well as state regulation of the socio-professional structure of the population. An analysis of the reports presented by academic experts at the Labour Forum event over the past five years has shown that their topics sensitively reflect the complex and dynamic development of scientific understanding of employment de-standardization, revealing the close relationship between the external environment and the internal logic of the research process. The reports presented at this event, which has become one of the flagship events of the Labour Forum program, provide an opportunity to summarize trends and explore new contours of the phenomenon of employment de-standardization in Russia.
