ABSTRACT

The issues of job search, employment and professional development of young people are relevant, since representatives of this socio-demographic group are at the stage of forming labor strategies, and their future professional life and position in the labor market largely depend on the parameters of the transition from training to work. The purpose of this study is to define the key areas of employment for higher education graduates in the field of economics and management. The main areas for graduates of economic specialties are employment in business, employment in public administration, in educational or scientific institutions, entrepreneurship, and project work (freelance). As a result, the main characteristics of job-searching and work defined, and specific features of professional development in these relevant areas of employment are determined. The characteristics of the job, which differ by area of employment, are the level of salary, the level of positions and responsibilities, the level of satisfaction and correspondence of the work to the education. The analysis is based on monitoring studies on graduates of the Faculty of Economics of Lomonosov Moscow State University: an annual survey of graduate students and monitoring the life trajectories of specialists from different years of graduation. The results of the survey can be used by researchers to deepen understanding of the position and career development of university graduates in the labor market, by university students - to determine the most promising and attractive areas of employment, taking into account their priorities, by school graduates and their parents - for making choice of the specialty at the university.
