ABSTRACT
This article reviews and discusses the central themes of the new collective monograph, Russian Society and the Challenges of Time. Book Eight, edited by Academician M.K. Gorshkov and N.E. Tikhonova of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and published by Ves Mir Publishers. The volume examines the complex processes of adaptation and transformation affecting social institutions, as well as group and individual strategies, during a period of significant turbulence. It provides an analysis of developments in the spheres of labour, education, healthcare, culture, and mass communications, and assesses their impact on social stratification and mobility structures. A notable emphasis of the work is its investigation into how information flows and digital technologies shape public opinion, political preferences, and models of social interaction. The monograph puts forward original interpretations and theoretical models to elucidate the intricate interconnections between the socio-economic, political, and cultural factors shaping the development of Russian society. The research findings presented hold practical value for formulating evidence-based social policy strategies. These strategies are geared towards mitigating social tensions, raising living standards, and enhancing social cohesion. This peer-reviewed volume will be of considerable interest to a broad readership concerned with contemporary issues in Russian society and seeking a deeper understanding of the underlying dynamics at work in the country.
